Springtime Art Competition

Spring is just around the corner!
Could you create a brilliant piece of art inspired by Spring, the season of new beginnings?   Why not let your imagination run wild and create something amazing for our competition?  You could win a prize and your work will be exhibited at our upcoming Daffodil Festival.

About the competition

  • The competition is for children only.  Prizes will be awarded in three age groups: under 8s, 8-12 years old, and 13-16 years.  

​

  • There are two ways to enter the competition, firstly original artworks and secondly emailed, jpg format A4 size, colour artwork pictures or photos.

 

  • Original artworks must be no larger than A3 size and must be in paint, pastels, acrylics, pens pencil or collage. Photos already framed or larger than A4 can be accepted as original artworks.

  • Emailed artworks will be printed in colour, framed and displayed during the exhibition.

  • We’ll be awarding prizes for an overall winner, and for a winner and one runner-up in each age category. 

 

  • All artwork entries will be displayed in the Garden Room at the Swiss Garden, the Shuttleworth Trust, Bedfordshire, SG18 9EP throughout the Daffodil Festival from Monday the 21st March to Saturday 9th April.

  • The closing date for emailed art works is midnight Wednesday 9th March.

​

  • The closing date for delivery of original art works is 4.00pm Thursday 17th March.

​

  • Only one competition entry per child is allowed.

How to enter

  • For original artworks please firstly email details of the artwork with a picture ideally and the following information: Title, artist name, age*, dimensions, medium and whether it is fully framed, card framed or unframed. This information regarding your intending competition submission, should be received no later than midnight on Wednesday 9th March.

 

  • Original artworks must be delivered to Ormonde Cottage, Hill Lane SG18 9EP between 10.00am and 4.00pm from Monday the 14th March to Thursday 17th March. They must be marked on back with the title and the artist’s name.

  • After the exhibition, original artworks can be collected from Ormonde Cottage, between 10.00am and 4.00pm on Sunday 10th April. Artworks not collected will be retained for one week and may be disposed of after this time.

​

  • Emailed art works, will be colour printed, framed A4 and displayed during the Exhibition. These email submissions should be received no later than midnight Wednesday 9th March. The artwork file should be in jpg format and the email should also include title, artist and age.

​

  • To enter the competition, please send your email to: friendsoftheswissgarden@outlook.com with the email subject heading ‘SPRINGTIME COMPETITION’.  Don’t forget to tell us your name and age group and to include a telephone number.  *If you’re a parent or guardian sending an entry on behalf of a child, please include both the child's name and your own name.

  • If you’re one of our winners or runners-up, we’ll get in touch and photos of your artworks will also be displayed in an online exhibition on this website.

Terms and conditions

What you need to know

​

  • This competition is free to enter and is open to all UK residents aged under 16.​

​

  • By submitting an entry, you agree to be legally bound by these Rules and Terms & Conditions.

​

  • Entrants who are under 16 must get consent from a parent or guardian before entering the competition. The parent or guardian of entrants under 16 agree to these Rules and Terms & Conditions on behalf of the entrants.

​

  • Any entry must be your original work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trademark, or proprietary rights. In addition, all entries must be produced legally without trespassing on any land and no wildlife or habitats should be harmed, put at risk or unduly disturbed in the process.

 

  • An email detailing your artwork and your intention to enter the competition must be received by midnight. Wednesday 9th March.

Your consent

​

By entering the competition, you are:

 

  • consenting to the Friends of the Swiss Garden and the Shuttleworth Trust storing your name and email contact details for the duration of the event so that we may contact you on matters relating to the competition.  We will not use your email address for anything else and we will not share or sell your contact details to third parties.

 

  • consenting, if you are a winner or runner-up in the competition, to us using an image of your artwork on the Friends of the Swiss Garden and the Shuttleworth Trust websites, and on other social media, marketing and publicity platforms.  Along with an image of your artwork, we will also publish your first name and your age.  Last names and any other personal details will not be published.

 

  • If you are a parent or guardian sending in an entry for a child, you undertake these consents on the child’s behalf.

About the judging

​

  • The judges will assess the entries and choose an overall winner, plus one winner and one runner-up from each age category (under 8, 8-12 and 13-16). The judges’ decisions will be final and no correspondence regarding the results will be entered into.

​

  • The winners and runners-up will be notified by email or telephone (using the details provided at entry) before Monday the 11th of April. The Friends of the Swiss Garden Committee will contact winners and runners-up about delivery of prizes.

 

  • The original artworks along with the printed and framed emailed artworks, will be displayed for the duration of the Daffodil Festival in the Garden Room at the Swiss Garden.  All practical measures will be taken to ensure the safety of the artworks but this area is not staffed at all times and the Friends of the Swiss Garden and the Shuttleworth Trust therefore accept no responsibility for damaged or lost entries.

​​

  • Please note that exhibition artworks must not be removed before the end of the Daffodil Festival at 6pm on Saturday 9th April.   Original artwork entries must be collected in person between 10.00am and 4.00pm on Sunday 10th April. The printed and framed artworks remain the property of the Friends of the Swiss Garden. The prints will be removed and disposed of and the frames retained for future events.

  • Full copyright title remains with the creator of any entry.

​

Finally


The Friends of the Swiss Garden reserve the right to refuse entry or to refuse to award the prize to anyone in breach of the Rules or the Terms & Conditions or the spirit of the Rules or the Terms & Conditions.
